Shape, Width, And Measurement Tips

Find Your Fit

We want you to have the best fitting frames for your face. So we created this guide to help you better understand widths, measurements, and how certain frames complement different face shapes.

Match Your Face Shape To Frame Shape

We all have different face shapes - and that’s a good thing! Select your face shape and see which frames work best with your unique features.

Round Face

You have a soft jawline and wider cheeks. Square, angular frames will give you balance and definition.

Understanding Frame Measurement

In eyewear, there’s three numbers that matter for measurements. Here’s a closer look at what they mean.

49/20-145

  • The first number in the sequence (49) refers to the width of the lens in millimeters.
  • The second number in the sequence (20) refers to the width of the bridge in millimeters.
  • The third number in the sequence (145) refers to the length of the temple in millimeters.

Understanding Lens Categories

Our lenses come in four categories of protection, from average conditions to ultra-sunny days on the water. The transmission percentage is how much light the lens lets through. Lens category ratings can be found in the fit guides on each product page.

0 = very limited (80-100% transmission)

1 = restricted (43-80% transmission)

2 = good (18-43% transmission)

3 = high protection (8-18% transmission)

4 = very high protection, not suitable for use in traffic (3-8% transmission)

Face/Lens Shape FAQs

How do I know what size sunglasses will fit me best?

Start with the frame width. At RAEN, we categorize our frames as narrow, medium, or wide. If you already own a pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses that fit well, check the measurements printed inside the arm — especially the “frame width” or “lens width.”

If you’re unsure, our Find Your Fit tool is designed to guide you based on your face shape and preferences.

How do I figure out my face shape?

Face shape is all about proportions. Look straight into a mirror and focus on the outline of your face:

  • Balanced and softly curved — most frame shapes work well.
  • Full cheeks, softer jawline — try angular or square frames.
  • Strong jawline, broad forehead — go with round or oval frames.
  • Wider forehead, narrow chin — try frames with a wider bottom or rounded edges.
  • Longer face length — larger or oversized frames add width and balance.

What’s the difference between lens width, bridge width, and temple length?

hese numbers describe how your sunglasses are built:

  • Lens Width is the width of each lens (typically 47–54mm).
  • Bridge Width is the distance between the lenses — it affects how the frame fits across your nose.
  • Temple Length is the length of the arms (usually 140–150mm), which affects how the frames wrap around your ears.

Together, these measurements determine overall comfort and proportion.
