Mermaid, entrepreneur, and inspiring humanitarian. There’s really no way to classify Ambassador Kassia Meador except for being an all-around amazing human in and out of the water. California born and bred, she’s been part of the RAEN family since day one, spreading her creativity and positive vibes through everything she touches - whether she’s dancing across waves, supporting the Keep A Breast Foundation, or managing her own brand KASSIA+SURF.
While she continues to push the limits of women’s surf culture and design, she also makes time for nonprofits like Waves for Water, Groundswell, and The Surfrider Foundation (to name a few)
And in between all this, we were able to catch up with her for a day of sliding at iconic San Onofre, where we all enjoyed a quintessential California beach day with some of our new women’s Modern Classics. Scroll down and enjoy the ride!

Ambassador Carles Medina lives a life so many of us dream about - especially since we can’t travel like we used to. Originally from Barcelona and now living in San Sebastian, this photographer, surfer, and entrepreneur has a keen eye for the natural beauty of life near the sea, keeping us all inspired while we stay safely at home. If you need a little getaway, take a minute to enjoy life through the lens of our friend Carles Medina.
How long have you been a photographer? How would you describe your style of photography?
It all started naturally when I used to skate with my friends around Barcelona. Later while studying architecture at uni I began to appreciate photography as a form of art. Since I co-founded a fashion brand, Mirall, I started being curious about fashion photography. My style is the result of my day-to-day life on film.
Where do you draw your inspiration from in photography?
Sometimes I get inspired by artists I love. Other times I just try to capture the naturalness, movement, and spontaneity of the moment.
What is it like living in San Sebastian? What is your typical day like?
Living in San Sebastian is simply awesome, easy to move around, beautiful city, beautiful beaches and incredible food.
My days are pretty simple. Waking up early, have a coffee while checking the waves and go for a surf before work. If I can, I surf again in the afternoon and in a normal situation I would go for a beer or dinner in the old town with friends.
Tell us about your other passions and hobbies. What makes you happy?
Surfing, photography, and keeping my brand alive all keep me really busy and makes me very happy.
How long have you been connected to RAEN? Do you have a favorite RAEN frame style?
I would say 8 years. The relationship started working with Sito from RAEN Europe at the time. I have been wearing the Figurative frames a lot - they are my favorite.
How have you managed throughout this year? What has kept you positive in 2020?
The lockdown was very strict here in Spain and for two months we couldn’t leave the house at all. I tried to stay in the present moment and not think forward, keeping myself busy with work, exercise, healthy food, and lots of video calls. It all helped me to stay positive and get through this crazy time.
What are you looking forward to?
Travel again!

Bursting with unhinged electricity in and out of the water, Tanner is an artist, surfer, and humanitarian of the highest caliber. When he’s not throwing buckets of spray in the lineup, you’ll find him making eclectic collages, recording movies, or giving surfboards to kids around the world with Positive Vibe Warriors - a nonprofit foundation that he started with his brothers. He lives life with his head in the clouds and a smile on his face, and we are beyond excited to have his good vibes flowing through our community.
When did you first start surfing?
I was on a boogie board at 2 years old and I remember surfing by like 4 or 5.
Over the years, your family has become iconic with the San Clemente surf scene. How has that played a role in your creativity and surfing?
The generations before ours, like the Hoffmans, Seversons, Grubby Clark, and Hobie Alter - their ethos of being in the water kind of subconsciously made it seem more doable for us to be surfers growing up. Our parents definitely pushed us more for school and not just surf, but when we started traveling more as sponsored surfers they encouraged us to take photos, write stories, and share those experiences. It just allowed us to develop this level of discovery.
Can you tell us more about your board testing project?
I got into craigslist because there’s so many boards for so cheap - and it was super fun because it felt like a scavenger hunt. It’s kind of like American Pickers for surfing, and riding these boards has really opened my mind to ride whatever. So with all these new boards I just grab something different and each time out feels like a new surf trip. Some of those old boards are magic sticks!
Can you tell us how you and your brothers started Positive Vibe Warriors?
We started PVW 10 years ago after we’d been doing these kids events to raise money for San Clemente Junior Lifeguards scholarships. PVW was a way to build off that for different kinds of projects - like board drives in Jamaica and South Africa. In total, we’ve collected around 1500 surfboards and given them to kids in countries all around the world. Giving back to surfing is a really special thing because surfing gives us so much.
What are you most curious about as a surfer and artist?
Creatively, I want to do more behind the camera - like telling more intimate stories about people surfing around the world. There are so many cool stories that inspire you to surf, and I’d love to have a part in that.
What’s your favorite surf spot?
Hawaii. I love the North Shore with all its waves and different kinds of surfers.
What’s your favorite surf film?
The Occumentary. I literally have the whole thing memorized.
What’s your favorite RAEN shades?
I love the Luxury Wig stuff. And Remmy, too.

Ambassador Margaux Arramon-tucco is a surfer and artist who knows how to live the good life. Whether she’s riding waves in Biarritz or snapping photos amidst her many travels, Margaux has an effortless style that epitomizes laid-back French cool. Take a minute to get to know Margaux and enjoy a day in her life, shot through the eyes of photographer Carles Medina.
How long have you been connected with RAEN?
It’s been 10 years since I first got introduced to Raen in California.
What’s your ideal day at home in Biarritz?
I need to be active and productive during my days, so I would say a bit of work in the morning and surf in the afternoon is the perfect match.
Favorite RAEN frame at the moment?
These days I have been wearing the Blondie in Brut and Blue Gradient every day!
Tell us a bit about your photography. How would you describe your style?
I always paid attention to details, but this time I wanted to capture them. I started kind of fine art abstract photography. I only use film, and now I want to shoot people more and more but I feel like keeping my own style is super important nowadays, so I am still very shy about it.

We are thrilled to welcome Mikey February as our newest Ambassador. Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Mikey has molded a style of surfing that exquisitely channels old school flare with new school precision and technical prowess. He’s a surfer who does things his own way, generating a dynamic groove that’s inspired by the flavors of Africa and his many creative endeavors.
Take a minute out of your day and get to know this inspiring human. You’re going to see a lot more of Mikey around these parts, and we are very excited about that.
How did you get started surfing?
My dad started surfing just a few years before I was born, so when I was born he was still really amped on it. And naturally I wanted to do what he did, so he’d take me to the surf shop and show me all the magazines and movies and it was all pretty natural.
How has your family helped play a role in who you are and how you surf?
I mean, besides my dad being into surfing, my parents both worked at an ad agency. I was generally around a lot of creative people and as I started surfing more, they got really into it, giving me full support from the beginning. They’d drive us along the whole coast of South Africa to all the different contests, really embracing the whole surf culture.
Who are your biggest inspirations in and out of the water?
In the water, I’d say guys like Al Knost - and basically anyone who takes a different more creative approach to surfing. Outside of the water, I draw a lot of inspiration from musicians and artists back in the day, especially African artists and jazz.
What are you passionate about outside of the water?
Music and photography. I also started learning to play the piano - but have a long way to go.
What’s your favorite pair of RAEN sunglasses?
I’ve been rocking the Luxury Wig Collection. I also love the Hirsch in Ghost.
Upon finding out her mother’s diagnosis, Kassia found herself frustrated and unsure how to help her mother. During that time, she stumbled across KAB and they provided a positive way for her to join a community, spread their message, and do something to help her mom. Thanks to early detection, her mother recovered without the need of chemotherapy - but that didn’t stop Kassia from pushing forward.
Since her time with the organization, she has worked closely with KAB on events and activations to help raise money and awareness - from their signature breast casts to just getting the word out about education and early detection. “Early detection is paramount,” says Kassia, who 20 years later is still involved with KAB and working with them to educate young women to take care of their own bodies and “empower them to support each other and their community.”
“If there’s one piece of info I want you to walk away with, it’s about education and spreading the message,” adds Kassia. “If we are mindful and aware of our bodies, hold space for ourselves and one another, then we can all come together and support each other.”
In celebration of their 20th Anniversary, we are donating $20 from every purchase to the Keep A Breast Foundation. On top of that, we’ll give you a FREE Limited-Edition canvas tote ($20 value) if you spend $125 or more. Treat yourself and show support for an amazing cause.
*One tote bag per customer. While supplies last. Limited quantities available. Subtotal must be over $125 after discounts.
