RAEN Ambassador Dane Peterson set out on a recent excursion through Mexico with fellow ambassadors Alex Knost, Ellis Ericson, and Ford Archbold in search of a good time and a hit of self-realization. A few fun-filled days of camping and shredding along the vast open coastline was just the remedy Dane and friends had searched for. Luckily Dane brought along his camera so the rest of us can escape reality through his photos; if even for a few seconds.
From land to air to sea, this Australian born adventure seeker seems to have most all of the Earthly elements mastered. Josh Kerr is the newest addition to the RAEN Family and brings with him an impressive array of skills and accolades. Standing atop the WSL podium, inspiring design and travel pursuits, as well as a family unit that would make the Brady’s green with envy…Kerr is a natural fit for the myriad of folks here at RAEN and the diverse patchwork of personalities that look to RAEN for handmade product.
Brian Hansen is more than just a beard and a couple of dogs as sidekicks. He is an animal loving, street machine who has grown to be a household name in skateboarding due to his determination, consistency, and recognizable personality…and beard…and dogs. He is also a self-assured sunglass freak who will personally let you know he has the Squire in every color of acetate ever produced.
At seventeen years old, Tia brings to the table a world of experience far beyond what her age implies. Born in Puerto Rico, spending her early teen years in Hawaii, and now residing in Southern California, Tia is a product of change and is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the future of women’s surfing. Tia is now rooted in the epicenter of surf arenas with Lower Trestles at her disposal and an entourage of the best up-and-coming surfers by her side. She is as committed as they come with a balanced life that makes time for yoga, school, competition, travel, vegan eating, and artistic endeavors. And with her photogenic abilities to cap this all off, we can say that Tia will be around for a long time.
Last summer, RAEN took a trip to meet up with Zak Bush and friends Mikey Detemple, Lisa Meyers, and Colin Whitbread to shoot our new RX line, the Shore Collection. Costa Mesa local Al Knost has spent the past decade traveling and exploring the world living in a 60’s dream. Continuously pushing his style to new extremes in the water and constantly testing his own handmade shapes, Knost carries this ideology on to dry land as well. He has been blessed with such talent out of the water in creating nostalgic tunes with his current band “Tomorrow’s Tulips", where his stylish vibes have been translated into the form of music and new sounds are consistently created. A true team leader, Knost has been apart of the RAEN family since their beginning.
Australia born and Indonesia bound, Ellis is always onto the next quest in life. Currently calling Bali his home base, this guy must be doing something incredibly right. Some of the best retro boards on the planet these days are hand-shaped by Ellis, which he rides personally and crafts for those lucky enough. His ability to showcase a modern 70’s surf style is unique and inspiring in a time where technology has done more than taken over.
This true blue was born on the path of righteousness. With a father like Archie there was never a doubt that this kid would lack spunk. Growing up in both California and Hawaii, you can say that Ford has more than a bit of experience in the water. Ford also possesses the gift of musical adaptation and currently creates jams alongside fellow ambassador Al Knost in "Tomorrow’s Tulips."
With an uncanny ability on top of a skateboard and finesse with any form of instrument in hand, Josh Harmony radiates of prowess since first hitting the scene. Having put out 6 full length records and traveling the world as a professional skateboarder since 17 years of age, if Josh has one thing above all it is dedication and passion. Residing in Long Beach but constantly traveling, catching one of Josh’s live sets should easily find its way to the top of your to-do list.
Kassia is a woman of many talents. She has elegance and grace on a board, yet spunk and ease within her photography. A world traveler, magnificent wave glider, and all around down to earth friend, Kassia is continuously on the hunt for her next exhibition, whether it be in a gallery or in the lineup
Mikey is a highly inspirational cat, hailing from the East Coast, whom has made his mark in more than just one world. To put it in a nutshell, he has the supernatural ability to be rather exceptional at whatever it is he decides to put his mind to. An honorable style guru, both in and out of the water and in front of or behind the lens, Mikey is as well-rounded as they come. Give this guy a peeling right-hander and prepare to be amazed.
An East Coast affiliate of RAEN, Nick travels the world and captures a narrative true to its own. His photos are incredibly intimate and create a sense of the audience being at that exact place when the image was created.
Jenavieve is a rare breed of photographers of this new era. Nothing stands in the way of this natural born sniper as she seeks out the simple ordinary things in life to be magnificent. Capturing beauty in the youth of her generation, Belair is amongst the few cutting photographers who shine so bright.
This all around adventure seeker has a spontaneous bone in his body that breathes timeless exposures and finding that “perfect shot”. Ben creates his story as he goes and brings life into all of the stills he captures.
If you could add one parts culture, two parts soul, and a dash of omnipotent beauty, you would have Margaux Arramon-Tucoo. Growing up in Biarritz, France, Margaux was surrounded by a world of art, surfing, and the intertwining of both; culture. Her wave riding showcases subtle movements that are smooth and full of grace. Likewise, her art is so intricate that true appreciation takes much longer than a quick glance. But don’t be fooled, Margaux will be the first person to get the dance party started.
Bob Hoste is an all around good guy with a talent most of us strive to achiece - loyal to his work. Hoste has a way with film that encourages us a brand to strive to go up and beyond when it comes to creative. Hoste is originally from the East coast but has a West coast heart.
Dane is a sly, cool cat with a knack for photography and writing. A wordsmith and photosmith of sorts, Dane has been capturing special moments for years and will continue to do so in the future. Bar none, his incredible surfing abilities have helped shape his eye for the perfect angle when looking through the lens.
Most of the year Zak is out shooting photos of surfing around the world in exotic locations, but for the rest of the year he's shooting with snow on the beach and below freezing temps in the water. He’s mastered the skill of capturing the beauty that the East coast provides and he is amongst the few that were able to bring back the hype of suiting up in 5/4 mm, boots and hoodies.
The progression of Al Knost’s musical ventures can be seen as he has grown to become the commander of this psychedelic, groovy project. Along the way, Knost has picked up good friend and fellow comrade Ford Archbold to become what has currently become Tomorrow’s Tulips. With a recent record release less than half a year old and a consistent lineup of shows, Tomorrow’s Tulips continue to grow and blossom as their evolutionary tract continues.
The Borgeson brothers hail from Santa Cruz and are already making their mark as a young, cult classic duo of talented wave gliders and developing artists. Their life consists of point breaks, skateboards, paintbrushes, and canvases of many shapes and sizes. Their style for their age is impeccable and to watch them grow up will be a real treat for everybody watching.
Jack-of-all-trades, mystery man, and all around good guy Colin Whitbread is the energy that captivates any room he is in. From Southern California to New York and overseas to Japan, Mr. Whitbread has a wide fan base and for good reason. He is always on the go, but still manages to surf more than the rest of us. And this ability is to be applauded. His face appears in the most farfetched of places from highly visible ad campaigns to Hollywood produced music videos. His artwork and boardsmanship are second to none and you can be assured that if you are lucky enough to meet Colin, you will never forget him.
With effortless style in and out of the water, Matt Cuddihy has been on the forefront of the movement back to single fin long boarding in Australia. He has been trimming down the line of Noosa’s point breaks since his teenage years and has grown into a highly respected, well-rounded surfer. With his sarcastic wit and kind soul Matt has travelled the world searching for perfect waves. Capturing every moment on his film camera, his photography is an array of timeless images from the jungles of Java to the deserts of California. They tell a story of an eternal grommet’s life on the road, whether that be living in Vans or strapping his life to a motorcycle and exploring the road less travelled.
